Monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar panels are two common types of photovoltaic panels, each with distinct characteristics.

Monocrystalline panels are made from a single, continuous silicon crystal, giving them a uniform appearance with a dark black hue. They are known for their high efficiency, typically ranging from 17% to 22%, because the single-crystal structure allows electrons to flow more freely. They also perform better in low-light conditions and have a longer lifespan, often exceeding 25 years. However, they are more expensive due to the complex manufacturing process.

Polycrystalline panels, on the other hand, are composed of multiple silicon fragments melted together, resulting in a blue, speckled appearance. Their efficiency is slightly lower, generally around 15% to 18%, because the fragmented crystal structure causes more resistance in electron flow. They are less expensive to produce, making them a budget-friendly option for large installations. However, they are less efficient in extreme temperatures and lower light conditions.

In summary, monocrystalline panels offer superior efficiency and longevity but at a higher cost, whereas polycrystalline panels are more affordable but with slightly lower performance. Choosing between them depends on budget, space availability, and energy needs.
